Developing Relationships

Moving to a new place can be fun or scary depending on your frame of mind! Today I met a lady who has the right attitude...she said she knows she's only going to be here for a year because of her husband's job, but she has decided she wants to get out and meet as many people as possible!

An audio book that I'm listening too dovetails perfectly with what she is doing. "It's Not Just Who You Know," by Tommy Spaulding takes "How To Win Friends & Influence People," to the next level ... or five!

Tommy writes about how he meets people and how he develops them into friends. This book is another good one for everyone to listen/read whether they are a stay-at-home mom, retail sales associate, mid-level manager or CFO. Tommy's personal stories make this an easy read. Drive

I just finished listening to an audio book titled "Drive" by Daniel Pink. Fittingly enough I listened while I drove around in my car...

This audio book is a must read/listen book for anyone who works for, runs or owns a business. Pretty much everyone!

The traditional business I owned was a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. More of the intrinsic motivation came from me (even though at that time I had know idea that was even a word!). My business partner was definitely more extrinsically motivated. I think the 30 years difference in age probably accounted for most of that!

"Drive" explains the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic and also talks about "carrots and sticks" motivation. I really like what Pink has to say about motivation and you can apply it to anything - from cleaning the house to growing a family to running a business.

I also really liked the ROWE (Results Oriented Work Environment) concept. If I own another traditional business in the future, I would really like to use the ROWE concept. Until that point, I will just focus on my internet franchise and figure out my ROWE and intrinsic motivations.

All in all, you should read/listen to this book!

Up next: "How To Become a Million Dollar Earner" by Frank Keefer and an audiobook "It's Not Just Who You Know" by Tommy Spaulding.

stirfry!

My first post....you would think I would put some thought into that, but what is the point? Tonight I am making stir fry for supper. Just open up the fridge, pull out fresh veggies, meat and spices - voila! Stirfry...all inspired by a lonely onion in the pantry.

You know what? Life can be like stir fry! Throw together a group of people, add the spices of life and presto you have new friends! Now how do you go about making these friends lifelong relationships? Well that takes nurturing and correspondence and time. A good book to read on that would be Keith Ferrazzi's "Never Eat Alone." I just finished his book tonight. I learned quite a bit and had even more lessons learned early, reinforced by his teachings.

Now that I have managed to talk about food, friends and reading in one post, you might have a taste of what my thoughts, musings and reviews might be like.

May your horse be swift, your laughter infectious, your smile sincere!
